How To Get More Time In Your Day

Are you looking for ways to get more time in your day? You do know that this is actually an illusion, right? Since there will always be 24 hours in a day. But for the sake of your wellbeing and performance, you might want to try managing your energy, instead of your time.

Research suggests that when you take frequent breaks during your workday, allowing yourself to recover, you’re better able to focus on the task at hand and you’re more productive because of that. And being more productive means getting more done in less time!

It is recommended to take a break every 90-120 minutes throughout the day. Breaks can be as short as 5 minutes and consist of some kind of a diversion or distraction. This allows you to return to your task with more focus, renewed energy and better access to creative solutions.

Taking frequent breaks manages your energy throughout your day. It’s like a repetitive cycle: work - rest and recover – repeat.

Do you see how managing your energy wins you time? You will end up feeling like you have more time in your day! And you will indeed have more spare time, which you could spend on doing what gives you joy or inspires you.

Some questions for you to consider:

  • Will you allow yourself to take more (short yet effective) breaks throughout your day? Why or why not?

  • What might you do to recover during a break?

  • Imagine you’d end up having more spare time… What might be some of the things you could do with that extra time?

  • We’ve learned that taking those breaks boosts productivity. And how might this contribute to your wellbeing?
